Domaine des Eygas, Cornas

Our wines from the Northern Rhone Valley are vinified and aged in our cellars, which are located in Cornas. This small appellation is only 150 hectares (in total or 370 acres) with steep granite terraces overlooking the Rhone River. One most important point is that this area of the Rhone saw the birth of the only red varietal grown in the Northern Rhone – SYRAH. This varietal found its purest expression here and is the only grape grown in the appellation of Cornas! We are the custodians of this varietal that was created over 2000 years ago!

Our terroir is unique containing 300 million year old decomposing granite (as a subsoil), preserved in the midst of Holm Oak (commonly called Live Oak) and Juniper woods that give the wines some of their character and depth. Our wines are complex, powerful and yet elegant, with aromas of liquorice, blackcurrants, violets and iris scents all produced from our 13 hectares of Syrah vines in our Cornas vineyards called: Les Ruchets, La Louvee, Les Terres Brulees and Vallon de l’Aigle.
