Jean-Luc Colombo, one of the most visionary and imaginative winemakers in France's Rhone Valley, has turned to the vineyards of the Cote Bleue, near Marseille. The Cote Bleue has an outstanding potential and his collection of wines include an elegant rose, a concentrated red wine and a seductive white wine. "Les Pins Couches" or "the Sleeping Pines" is an homage to the Mistral, a powerful wind that blows through the southern France. Such is its force that the pine trees of the Cote Bleue are blown into a proximity to the sea lends these wines an appealing hint of marine salinity, making them natural companions to various seafood dishes. The vineyards are located on a cape of land surrounded by water, with the Mediterranean Sea to the south, the Berre Sound to the north and the Gulf of Lion to the west. It is a peninsula with hot summer days and contrastingly cool nights. This terroir is very suitable for growing Viognier, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes.
